When I moved
to Vermont, one of the great surprises was the way things grow here. Spring,
summer and autumn are all short seasons compared to the long gray winter.
But, the diversity and abundance of plant life, the daily changes in the
landscape, and the incredible, indescribable color is something everyone
should ave the opportunity to experience. It should be a requirement in
school. The end of summer is especially spectacular as the hay bales and
teases of fall colors begin to appear alongside the best blueberries and
tomatoes I've ever tasted. Even in our tiny gardens behind the house, enough
flowers grow that the tables can always be full of blooms and there are
always some to share.
